Idaho Student Excels in Digital Innovation Journey

Sofia Sanchez-Chapman is a student in Boise State University’s online Bachelor of Arts in Digital Innovation and Design program. Born and raised in Idaho, she grew up near Nampa with her mother and three older sisters and later moved with her family at age 12 to a ranch near Weiser. After completing middle and high school through Idaho Virtual Academy, Sanchez-Chapman began her studies at Boise State with the help of the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship.

While working on her bachelor’s degree, she is also earning multiple certificates, working on her family’s ranch, and serving as a teaching assistant. Anthony Saba, a clinical assistant professor in the Boise State College of Innovation + Design, said she plays a mentor role for students, helping to build community and offering an alternative perspective to instructors.

Sanchez-Chapman has shared that the online program has introduced her to new paths and ideas that differ from her experiences on the ranch. Despite challenges of completing an online program in rural Idaho, she continues to encourage others to seek out connections and ask for help when needed.
