**Nampa Officials Share Fire Safety Tips for Families**
The Nampa Fire Department has released an informational guide to help families prepare for potential home fires, emphasizing the importance of quick and efficient escape plans. Fire safety officials stress that every second counts during a fire emergency, making preparation essential to protecting lives.
Here are the key tips shared for fire safety:
1. **Create a Home Fire Escape Plan**: Families are encouraged to identify at least two alternative exits in every room of their homes. Additionally, selecting a safe meeting place outside the house is vital for accountabilities during emergencies.
2. **Close Doors at Night**: Closing doors before going to bed can slow the spread of flames. If you need to escape, check a door for heat before opening it to ensure it is a safe exit.
3. **Stay Low**: Crawling underneath smoke provides safer passage out of a fire, as smoke rises and can cause harm if inhaled.
4. **Call 911 for Help**: Once you are safely outside, immediately call emergency services for assistance.
5. **Don't Go Back Inside**: It is critical to avoid re-entering a burning building under any circumstance after escaping.
The Nampa Fire Department encourages all residents to practice their escape plans regularly and make fire safety a priority in their households. More detailed information on creating a home fire escape plan is available on their website.
